Jurassic Run

September 2, 2008

Went out for the traditional Jurassic run yesterday before breaking the my fast.

I left work at about 4:00pm got home by 4:15 and prayed. I was on the road running at 4:50, i had to catch up to the my uncle and the rest of the runners because they started around 7 minutes before i did.

It was an amazing run, we ran for around 30 minutes in tough terrain, hence the name Jurassic. The run is mostly on very soft hilly sand which makes it that much more difficult. I could feel every muscle in my leg tighten with every step.

We made it back by 5:20 which gave me enough time to take a cool shower and get ready for futoor (breaking of the fast).

Today i’ll be playing tennis inshallah, if i can get out of work early by 3:45’sh.

Mahatma …

August 31, 2008

Thank God my reading phase is still on. I’ve been reading so much this year, if feel like a dog that has been tied up for a long time and suddenly is let loose! I can’t get enough of it, i go crazy in bookstores, it is my favorite place to shop these days.

Anyway, the latest book i’m reading is The story of my experiments with truth by M.K. Ghandi.

I thought i knew a bit about this life, but it turns out i only knew 1% of what this man went through and achieved in his life.

I highly recommend this book even though i still did not finish it, so far it’s been difficult to put down.

I really enjoy reading autobiographies. I learn so much from them!

Shooting Range

August 27, 2008

After a couple of meetings in the morning and sushi for lunch we decided to head to the shooting range in the late afternoon.

I can’t remember the name of the place, but it was a good 20 min drive from the JW. We had a blast. I tried two different hand guns and one rifle. I started with the 9mm, my accuracy was decent for a first timer (well second timer to be honest, but my first time was in the US around 7 years ago). Then i shot the 44mm which was a different experience, it took me a couple of shots to adjust to the kick it had but i had a pretty good round with it.

I felt proud of myself, the guy supervising us suggested i join competitions with them which made me feel great :)

We then moved to shooting a rifle, i can’t remember what rifle we shot, i wrote it down but don’t have the paper on me. Anyway, this was an unbelievable experience the target was much farther away which meant we need to use a small telescope thing, and you shoot this while sitting down. It felt nice but i had a difficult time with seeing the traget, my eye was blurry for some reason. You know the feeling when you put pressure on your eye with your hands then you release it takes a few seconds to adjust, it was that kind of feeling.

From there we met a friend at Avenues. Did a bit of business product accessory shopping, whatever that means, then we had dinner at the Noodles Factory.

Got back home at 11’sh and had to prepare for my early morning meeting today. Thank God it is in the hotel so i can take my time while getting ready.

Another couple of meetings to go and then i’ll head to the airport for the afternoon flight back to Bahrain.

Can’t wait till my next visit to Kuwait inshallah

First Visit to Kuwait

August 26, 2008

Well i just arrived in Kuwait a few hours ago.

I’m staying at the JW and i must complement them on their excellent service. Everything i’ve requested so far was delivered to me with a smile. Its been a while since i’ve seen such service. Lets hope this lasts for the next couple of days.

Well, this is my first visit to Kuwait. I didn’t see much of it today because i arrived in the evening but i’m really hoping to see the place tomorrow inshallah i’ll work something out around my meetings.

I’m just here for a couple of days accompanying one of my colleagues in my new job. They want to show me a live example of interactions with clients etc… Eventhough this won’t be my target market, still it should be a good learning experience.

Inshallah i’ll be targeting the Eastern Province, commuting between Bahrain and Saudi, yes i know it will be a challenge but i’m looking forward to it.

Well thats it for now, i’ll keep you posted on how this trip develops

I quit!

August 20, 2008

Yup, you heard me, “I QUIT!”

After three years and a bit with the organization that i grew up with, a new family came knocking. I got an opportunity that is hard to resist, still it was one of the most difficult choices i had to make.

I had an extremely good relationship with the company i was working with, i was one of the first people in my departments and helped structure the whole place. It really felt like home, i was comfortable. But like they say, you never realize your potential until you step out of your comfort zone.

It was so difficult saying good bye, i am still in contact with them all the time. (this happened during the first week of July)

Today, i started working with my new company. It is an investment company that has products all arond the world, Gulf and Europe for the time being but plans to expand in US and Asia. I am excited, they are extremely professional here, i really feel i’m working with International bankers since most of the staff worked with international banks at one point in their career.

I will be travelling quite frequently in this new role, mainly in the region. My first trip could be as soon as next week to Kuwait inshallah.

Now you might be wondering what i’ve been doing from the first week of July up to today. Well …

A while back i was selected, along with 7 Bahrainis, to go on a leadership program for two weeks. So basically i spent the last 16 days between Scotland and England on this program which was out of this world. All i can say i WOW, il hamdillah that all went well.

Before the course started i was travelling with my wife around Europe; Spain, France, and Italy. We then met up with the rest of the family in an island next to mainland Spain where we spent another week.

Well this is a quick update to put you in the picture :) A lot of changes in a short period of time, i’m so excited and i can’t wait to prove myself in this new organization!

I’m back!

August 19, 2008

I’ve been away for some time now and i’m glad to say that i’m back!

I’ll be posting on where i’ve been and what i’ve been up to shortly.

Training again

June 11, 2008

Good run on Monday. Decided to go running right after work when i ran into my uncle with some of his running buddies as they were about to head out for their Monday evening run.

Ran for about 6.7 kilometers at medium to slow pace with the exception of the last 15 minutes where i bumped up the pace. Felt good the next morning, no tight muscles or strains, thank God.

I’m off to play a football match now against my old company! MY current employer VS my old employer, i’m so pumped up for this match!
